The introduction is next to body and conclusion one of the cornerstones of any scientific text. You will skillfully lead the topic and raise a fundamental interest in the reader. It can, for example, an appropriate quote at the beginning of standing, which allows an easy introduction, followed by a research context and research question. This is significant part of the introduction, because it needs to be clear exactly what insights can be expected from work. Just briefly, the objectives are described that you want to achieve with the work, and what methods are used.
In addition, must be justified, how and especially why it confines the subject. The whole is completed by a brief description of the line of reasoning, the structure of the work; but this should never be a mere retelling of the table of contents. The introduction should be between five and fifteen percent of the total length of the text. The initiation is considered schwierigster part, which is why it is easier to write it at the end, if you know “where things are headed,” and prefer to start with a chapter of the main part, also to avoid writer’s block.
prologue to initiate
Let’s say that the body of the dissertation , housework and generally any kind of scientific work does not begin in the midst of things, so the main part. That would be the way to miss the first half hour of a good Cops: Man will realize all the time that you have not noticed at the beginning of something important, even if you know the resolution of the case at the end. Therefore, the introduction, in addition to body and conclusion, an important part of undergraduate work or housework. The reader should be prepared for what to expect him, especially with regard to the research question has to be answered in the work. Finally, this is without seeing a clear focus and a sense not necessarily feel the desire to read your work.
The introduction gives the reader a first impression. If this is negative, then that beats most likely down to the rest of the work. Can someone not make it clear in a small space, about which he writes, be sought for any reason and the goals, it is not surprising that the rest of the work on the (negative) effect. How to write a successful introduction of the homework or thesis that awakens the reader’s interest and the goodwill of the supervisor?

Preparations for scientific work
Because belongs to a good end, a good start: What does the introduction of the bachelor thesis
“The film producer and publisher Samuel Goldwyn asked his screenwriters, they should begin their story with an earthquake – and then increase very slowly” (grain Meier 2013: 102).
A scientific work is of course no script and something as spectacular as an earthquake is of course not expected at the beginning – but even here you need (and tie) to win for you the reader
With the introduction of the bachelor thesis the actual text part begins (for abstract, preface, table of contents, etc. are not part of the text itself), and thus it serves as an introduction to the work par excellence. In general, “the initiation of a work […] the place where the author to the reader comes into contact” (Esselborn-Krumbiegel 2002: 132). Therefore, it is not to be underestimated, because the first impression is important and can be decisive … just like in other areas of life.
Not only is a brief overview of the work, it also offers a guide to help the reader navigate the text, in short: it is the figurehead of your work (see Stickel Wolf & Wolf 2013:. 200 ).
In the short and sweet? Is that also true in initiating the housework?
Of course it is important to define the length of each major ingredients in the write strategy. How long should introduction, body and conclusion (which is the introduction, in terms of length, is similar) be? Finally, this is a 40- to 60-page thesis or 60- to 80-page housework different from a ten-page term paper or skilled labor, as to the extent of the individual points varies depending on the work. The main section, as the name suggests, actually, also regarding. The number of pages the most extensively.
In contrast, the introduction should not exceed 15 percent of the text circumference account (see Stickel Wolf & Wolf 2013:. 201). Gruber, Huemer & Rheindorf talking about a circumference of about five per cent of the total length (in a 20-page work one side) (2009: 98). One can say that the introduction of the Bachelor thesis or term paper should be about five to 15 percent of the total length of the text.
Which came first: the chicken or the egg? / Initiation or conclusion?
A basic question in the writing the thesis or household chores, how and where to best start writing. As the title suggests, a sort of fundamental debate is unleashed here actually: What comes first, the beginning or the end? It may sound paradoxical, but introduction and conclusion are closely ratio (see also the article ” write Conclusion of the thesis “). “Introduction and conclusion reflect the bulk of opposite sides: […] The final section summarizes the main part, while the introduction prepares the reader to it and leads” (Brown & Vollmer 2004: 120).
Q: So can we prepare skillfully to the main part when this is not yet written, and stir up realistic expectations of the reader, without the to know results exactly which are reserved for the final part?
In this regard, Opinions differ. Theisen recommends initiating the very end post , and remarked: considered “This recommendation is that (also) is the author known only at the end that could be really done; only such an introduction can be an invitation to the reader for further reading his “(2013: 152). Several authors stress that one as information and orientation is required to submit a good introduction to the thesis, and hold a final formulation of introduction until after completion of the work would be useful (see Rossig & Prätsch 2005: 71; Bänsch & Alewell. 2013: 79; Stickel Wolf & Wolf 2013: 201)
In contrast, grain Meier can not find anything in this prediction, “because you should, strictly speaking, at the end of your work do not know more than at the time, start at what you writing about the content of your, Introduction ” (2013: 109). Also should research question will not be included in retrospect (see Samac, Prenner & Schwetz 2009. 61). It must be said that the research question, of course, has always firmly stand clear before starting to write.
Even if the introduction is not yet written, one has to be clear goal in mind and does not write “blindly”. In addition, you should have already created a preliminary outline for writing plan
“The final version […] the introduction […] is quite different from those of the beginning. That is normal. Were it not so, the whole investigation would give you not a new idea. maybe you were good fellows, but it would have been superfluous, the final paper [ sic !] to write “(Eco 2010: 145).
